A franchise record for losses defines the Arizona Cardinals' disastrous 2025 season
In short: After starting 2–0, the Arizona Cardinals collapsed into a 1–14 skid, finishing with a franchise-record 3–14. This season saw the team suffer through a nine-game losing streak and a historic inability to protect leads, ultimately resulting in the firing of head coach Jonathan Gannon.
The 2025 season was a historic low for the Arizona Cardinals, marking their 106th in the NFL and their 38th in Arizona. After an initial 2–0 start, the team spiraled into a 1–14 stretch, finishing with a .176 winning percentage—their worst since 1959 when the team was based in Chicago. This performance resulted in a 3–14 record, the worst in the franchise's Super Bowl era, and the team's fourth consecutive losing season.
The season was plagued by injuries and unprecedented collapses. Key players like quarterback Kyler Murray and running back James Conner were lost for the season. No other NFL squad has ever suffered three straight losses via field goals at the buzzer. Furthermore, they matched the 2017 49ers and 1984 Browns as the sole teams to lose five straight matches by four points or less, a margin of only 13 points combined.
The instability extended to the sidelines. Following the conclusion of the season on January 4, the Cardinals fired head coach Jonathan Gannon on January 5. Gannon finished his three-year tenure with a 15–36 record and a .294 winning percentage, which ranks as the seventh-worst in NFL history for a coach with at least 50 games. The team's struggles were punctuated by a four-year aggregate record from 2022 to 2025 of 19–49, the worst four-year stretch in the franchise's Arizona history.
