A season of records, collapses, and sudden departures in Atlanta
In short: The Atlanta Falcons' 2025 campaign was a study in extremes. They set franchise records for sacks and scrimmage yards, yet simultaneously endured their eighth consecutive losing season. Even a dramatic Week 18 victory could not prevent a total leadership overhaul just hours after the final whistle.
The 202<0xC2>5 season marked the Falcons' 60th in the NFL, characterized by a volatile trajectory. After a promising 3–2 start, the team suffered a significant collapse, losing seven of their next eight games. This slump included a 0–30 shutout loss to Carolina and a 0–30 loss in Berlin, Germany, where the defense struggled against the Colts. While the team managed to win their final four games, they finished with an 8–9 record, failing to break an eight-season playoff drought.
Individual brilliance provided the season's highlights, particularly from running back Bijan Robinson. By exceeding William Andrews' 1983 total of 2,176 yards, Robinson established a fresh team high for seasonal scrimmage yards. His performance included a 93-yard touchdown run, the longest in the NFL that season and a new team record. The defence achieved a club-best 57 sacks during this campaign.
The year concluded amidst club-wide instability, notwithstanding their late-year momentum. The final regular-season game against the New Orleans Saints was a high-stakes affair; Atlanta's victory created a three-way 8–9 tie between the Falcons, Saints, and Buccaneers, ultimately handing the NFC South title to Carolina via head-to-head tiebreakers. Hours after this win, owner Arthur Blank relieved head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot of their duties. Morris departed with a 20–25 record over three years, while Fontenot ended a five-year tenure with a 36–48 record, both without a single playoff appearance.
