Can the Houston Texans reclaim their dominance in a milestone season?
In short: Entering their 25th NFL season, the Houston Texans face a critical turning point. After a strong 12–5 campaign the previous year, the team is attempting to secure a fourth consecutive playoff appearance for the first time in franchise history.
The 2026 season represents a significant milestone for the Houston Texans, marking their 25th year in the National Football League. The franchise enters this campaign under the continued leadership of general manager Nick Caserio, who is now in his sixth season with the team, and head coach DeMeco Ryans, who is entering his fourth year at the helm. The primary objective for the squad is to improve upon the 12–5 record achieved during the previous season and to reclaim the AFC South division title.
However, the season has faced early turbulence. The Texans have struggled with a slow start, matching a 0–3 record from the previous year. This slump includes a loss to Indianapolis, marking their first defeat by that opponent since 2023, and a loss to the Buffalo Bills, which was their first home loss to Buffalo since 2006. This recent loss to Buffalo also ended a five-game winning streak against the team.
The team's schedule and performance are under close scrutiny as they attempt to make the playoffs for a fourth straight season—a feat never before achieved in the franchise's history. To celebrate this quarter-century anniversary, the team unveiled a special logo on March 30, 2026, which was later announced on June 8, 2026, to be worn as a patch throughout the entire season. The team's trajectory remains a central focus for fans and analysts alike as they navigate the complexities of the NFL schedule.
