How Ashlyn Krueger climbed the professional tennis ranks from wildcard prospect to top 30
In short: Born in 2004, American tennis player Ashlyn Krueger has rapidly ascended the professional circuit. From winning the 2020 Orange Bowl as a wildcard to securing her first WTA titles and reaching a career-high singles ranking of world No. 29 in 2025, her journey reflects a relentless pursuit of elite competition.
Ashlyn Krueger’s professional trajectory began in earnest following her 2020 Orange Bowl victory. By 2021, she was already making her debut at the WTA 1000 level and the US Open. Her breakthrough into the top 100 occurred in September 2023, following a dominant performance at the Japan Women's Open, where she captured her first WTA 250 title without dropping a single set. This achievement made her the first American teenager to reach the top 100 since Coco Gauff in 2019.
The 2024 season marked a significant evolution in Krueger’s game, characterized by consistent deep runs at major tournaments. She secured her first WTA 1000 main-draw win at the Dubai Championships and achieved her first third-round appearance at a major during the US Open. Her doubles success also flourished, highlighted by a title at the Charleston Open alongside Sloane Stephens. By August 2024, her consistent performance across these high-stakes events propelled her into the top 65 of the world rankings.
Krueger’s momentum continued into 2025, a year defined by her first WTA 500 final at the Abu Dhabi Open and a career-high ranking of world No. 29 by July. A pivotal moment occurred at the 2025 Miami Open, where she defeated Elena Rybakina to secure her first-ever victory against a top-10 ranked opponent. By 2026, her versatility was on full display as she reached her first major doubles final at the US Open and advanced to the fourth round of a major in singles at Wimbledon, proving her capability to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
