From ballet and local bands to a Popstars victory
In short: Before she became a household name in the German pop scene, Bahar Kizil was honing her craft in small-town bands. Her journey from a Turkish family in Freiburg to the winner's circle of Popstars illustrates a classic trajectory of artistic persistence and cultural fusion.
Born on October 5, 1988, in Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, Bahar Kizil carries a name that translates to "spring" in Turkish. Her heritage links back to Bayburt, Turkey, providing a cultural backdrop for her artistic identity. Before entering the national spotlight, she developed a diverse foundation of performance skills, beginning with ballet at the age of 12 and performing with four different local bands.
Kizil's mainstream breakthrough arrived when she was selected as one of the three winners of the fifth season of the German version of Popstars. This victory led to the formation of Monrose, a girl group alongside Senna Gammour and Mandy Capristo. The group remained active until 2011, marking a significant era in German commercial pop music.
Following the dissolution of Monrose, Kizil transitioned into a solo career in 2013 with releases like "Drank" and "Medusa." While her 2015 debut album, Bullets of Love, did not reach the top of the Official Charts, she continued to diversify her portfolio. This included a stint on the dance show Dance Dance Dance in 2017, where she collaborated with No Angels singer Sandy Mölling.
In recent years, Kizil has pivoted toward new creative directions. After a hiatus, she joined Traumfrequenz as a lead vocalist in 2019 and began releasing German-language tracks like "Die Fremde" and "Blaue Stunde" in 2020. She is currently preparing her second studio album, continuing to evolve her sound across platforms like YouTube and Spotify.
