From Missouri standout to NFL quarterback: The resilient journey of Brady Cook
In short: Born in 2001, Brady Cook evolved from a local Missouri recruit into a decorated college leader and professional signal-caller. His career is defined by high-stakes performances, overcoming significant injuries, and balancing elite athletic production with academic excellence, eventually securing his place on an NFL roster with the Miami Dolphins.
Brady Cook began his football journey at Chaminade College Preparatory School in Missouri, where he threw for 3,194 yards and 33 touchdowns during his senior year. After committing to the University of Missouri, he redshirted in 2020 before gradually earning his role as the team's primary starter. His breakout moment arrived during the 2021 Armed Forces Bowl, where he earned offensive MVP honors after tallying 238 passing yards and two total touchdowns against Army.
The 2023 season marked a significant peak for Cook. He led Missouri to a 10–2 regular-season record and a victory in the Cotton Bowl Classic, where he was again named offensive MVP. During that campaign, he set an SEC record for consecutive passes without an interception, surpassing the mark previously held by Andre' Woodson. Beyond the field, Cook distinguished himself academically, becoming the third player in history to win the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award in consecutive seasons, joining Tim Tebow and Barrett Jones.
Cook's collegiate career was also defined by physical grit. In 2024, he famously returned from a hospital visit for an ankle injury to lead a comeback victory against Auburn, despite being unable to practice the following week due to his condition. After his final collegiate game in the Music City Bowl, he transitioned to the professional ranks. Following a stint with the New York Jets, he was claimed by the Miami Dolphins in August 2026, continuing his professional career in the NFL.
