How a college star transitioned from Purdue to EuroLeague dominance
In short: Carsen Edwards' journey from a high school standout in Texas to a EuroLeague champion is a masterclass in professional evolution. After a prolific collegiate career at Purdue, he navigated the complexities of the NBA and G-League before finding championship success and record-breaking scoring in Europe.
Born in Houston, Texas, on March 12, 1998, Edwards emerged as a high-level prospect at Atascocita High School. By his senior year, he was averaging 26.3 points and 5.1 assists per game, earning MaxPreps All-America Fourth Team honors. His collegiate ascent continued at Purdue University, where he became a standout performer for the Boilermakers. Throughout the 2016–17 campaign, he stood alone among Big Ten Conference freshmen for hitting 45+ three-pointers and grabbing 35+ steals.
Edwards' collegiate peak arrived during the 2019 NCAA Tournament, where he set a single-tournament record with 28 three-pointers made. His performance was so dominant that he tied NBA star Stephen Curry for the third-most consecutive 25-point games in tournament history, with five such outings. Despite his success, his path to the professional ranks was non-linear. After being selected 33rd overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2019 NBA draft, he experienced stints with the Celtics, the Maine Red Claws, and the Memphis Grizzlies.
The most significant shift in Edwards' career occurred when he moved overseas. After playing for Fenerbahçe and Bayern Munich, he achieved significant success in the Basketball Bundesliga. In 2024, he helped Bayern Munich win the championship and was named Finals MVP. His momentum continued into 2025, when he broke EuroLeague records by scoring 26 points and hitting eight three-pointers in a single quarter against Maccabi Tel Aviv. He has since played for Virtus Bologna and Žalgiris Kaunas in the EuroLeague.
