Were the Celts really blue-painted warriors living in simple mud huts?

Curating Celts: what's in a name? · 5:59 · Video: The British Museum · Watch at the source

In short: The popular image of the Celts as marauding, blue-painted warriors in mud huts is not entirely accurate. Curator Julia Farley explores the complex reality of what it means to be Celtic in this exhibition, challenging long-held stereotypes about these ancient people.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with National Museums Scotland, examines the historical identity of the Celts. By moving beyond common tropes, it invites viewers to reconsider the cultural and social complexities of the groups historically labeled as Celtic.

The exhibition was held at the British Museum from 24 September 2015 to 31 January 2016. It was supported by the Stephen and Julie Fitzgerald Fund for the Future and dedicated to the memory of Melvin R Seiden.
