Alexander's path to the Montreal Alouettes was defined by persistence. After playing for Portland State from 2016 to 2021—where he threw 63 touchdowns and 31 interceptions—he signed with the Alouettes in February 2022. For several seasons, he occupied the periphery of the roster, serving as a third-string backup and dressing for games without recording significant statistics, including a championship victory in the 110th Grey Cup in 2023. His breakthrough arrived in 2024. After being elevated to the backup role following an injury to Cody Fajardo, Alexander began recording meaningful playing time. He eventually took over the starting position, leading the team to a series of victories. Before turning pro, he studied Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship at the university level. During his time in Montreal, he also served as the primary backup for the team during the final game of the 2023 regular season. This period of growth included dressing for both post-season games in 2022.
By the 2025 season, he was the opening day starter, eventually setting a new CFL record for the most consecutive wins to start a career with 11, surpassing Danny McManus' previous mark of eight. The 2026 season solidified his status as an elite performer. In a victory over Toronto, he threw a career-high 441 passing yards. His ability to protect the football was equally impressive, as he broke the CFL mark held by Darian Durant for 324 straight passes without an interception. His career trajectory highlights the importance of the 'practice roster' grind, moving from a developmental depth piece to a primary playmaker capable of leading high-pressure drives.
