From the Funny Farm to a Primetime Emmy win
In short: Dulcé Sloan’s journey into comedy didn't start on a late-night stage, but in a local club. After years of honing her craft, she transitioned from a stand-up newcomer to a staple of national television, eventually hosting one of the most influential comedy programs in America.
Born in Miami and raised between Florida and Georgia, Dulcé Sloan began her professional comedy journey in May 2009. Connections at the Funny Farm Comedy Club prompted her initial foray into stand-up, establishing a base of experience prior to achieving wider fame. She finished high school in Georgia during 2001. Later, she attended Brenau University to study theatre performance while also minoring in Spanish.
Sloan's ascent was marked by several high-profile milestones between 2015 and 2017. During 2015, she secured a win at the 12th annual StandUp NBC comedy showcase and earned 'New Face of Comedy' status at Just For Laughs. These accolades paved the way for her late-night debut on Conan in February 2016, followed by a win at the Big Sky Comedy Festival in Montana. Her early success was bolstered by appearances on the Steve Harvey Show and @midnight. She also worked as a correspondent for E! News Daily during this period.
By 2017, Sloan had become a recognized name in the industry, appearing on Rolling Stone's "10 Comedians You Need to Know" list. She joined The Daily Show as a correspondent in September of that year, eventually becoming a rotating host. Her versatility has allowed her to expand into voice acting for Fox's The Great North and hosting roles for CNN's New Year's Eve Live. She has served as a panelist for the radio program Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!. Additionally, she hosts a weekly podcast with Chrissy Choi about Korean dramas.
In 2024, Sloan reached a significant career peak by winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series as a host of The Daily Show. Her trajectory illustrates the modern path of comedy: moving from local club sets to festival recognition, and finally into the prestigious realm of national broadcasting. Her work includes voicing the character Honeybee in an animated sitcom. She was also inducted into her university's Alumni Hall of Fame in 2017.
