In short: Most actors wait for the call, but Emer Kenny changed the script. After writing an episode for the EastEnders spin-off, she was cast as Zsa Zsa Carter, launching a versatile career spanning period dramas, sitcoms, and even motion capture for Formula One.

Emer Kenny’s career is defined by a rare dual talent for both performance and screenwriting. Her professional breakthrough began with the 2007 BBC drama Coming Down the Mountain, but it was her contribution to the writing room that secured her early fame. In 2010, after writing the second episode of the EastEnders spin-off EastEnders: E20, she was cast in the role of Zsa Zsa Carter. This character appeared in both the spin-off and the flagship EastEnders series, though the role was written out in May 2010 to allow Kenny to pursue other acting opportunities.

Her writing credentials are equally notable. As the BBC Writers Academy's most junior recruit, Kenny learned to script long-term medical and family soaps, including Casualty, Holostory, and Doctors. Her first episode as a writer for EastEnders aired on 8 May 2012. Later, in 2016, she applied her skills to the Irish soap Red Rock, and by 2022, she had transitioned into writing and co-starring in the ITV crime drama Karen Pirie, an adaptation of Val McDermid’s novels.

Beyond the television screen, Kenny has explored diverse mediums. She has provided the voice and motion capture for the character Callie Mayer in the Braking Point story mode of the F1 23 video game, a role she later reprised in F1 25. Her acting credits also include the BBC Three dramedy Pramface, where she played Danielle Reeves, and the sitcom Badults. In 2017, she joined the cast of Father Brown as the character Penelope "Bunty" Windermere, further cementing her presence in British television.
