How a Nigerian striker became a record-breaking force across European football leagues
In short: Born in Benue State, Gift Orban rose from a Nigerian showcase tournament to become a prolific goalscorer across Norway, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Turkey. Known for his explosive finishing and record-setting hat-tricks, he has navigated the complex world of international football transfers while consistently finding the back of the net.
Gift Emmanuel Orban, born on 17 July 2002, began his professional journey after being scouted in Nigeria in 2021. His initial breakthrough occurred in Norway with Stabæk, where he quickly transitioned from a trialist to a star performer. By 2022, he had secured a permanent contract and finished as the joint top scorer in the Norwegian First Division, earning recognition as the league's Young Player of the Year. This early success highlighted his potential as a clinical striker capable of adapting to new environments.
His career accelerated rapidly following a move to the Belgian side Gent in early 2023. Orban made an immediate impact, notably scoring four goals in a single match against Zulte Waregem and setting a historic benchmark in UEFA club competitions. He achieved the fastest hat-trick in European history, netting three times in just three minutes and 25 seconds during a match against a Turkish opponent in the Europa Conference League. This feat surpassed the previous record held by Mohamed Salah, cementing Orban's reputation as a high-impact player.
The subsequent years saw Orban navigate various European leagues, including stints at Lyon in France, TSG Hoffenheim in Germany, and Hellas Verona in Italy. His career has been marked by both rapid adaptation and the challenges of settling into new clubs. Whether scoring late-game winners in Serie A or contributing to cup runs in France, Orban has maintained a reputation for decisive, late-match scoring. Currently playing for Amedspor in Turkey, his trajectory reflects the modern reality of professional football, where talent is constantly scouted and moved across borders to maximize competitive potential.
Orban's journey is defined by his versatility and the speed at which he impacts matches. From his early days in Norway to his recent loan spells, he has consistently demonstrated an ability to influence results, often coming off the bench to change the momentum of a game. His career remains a study in the rapid rise of international prospects in the global football market.
