The quarterback who broke a league record in just three games
In short: Hank Bachmeier's professional journey is a masterclass in persistence. After navigating a complex collegiate path through three different universities and several injury setbacks, he found his breakout moment in the inaugural season of a new European league, shattering records in a stunning debut.
Bachmeier’s path to professional football was non-linear. A four-star recruit from Murrieta Valley High School, he first joined Boise State in 2019. He became the initial true freshman to launch a season opener for the FBS-level Broncos. However, his tenure was marked by significant physical hurdles, including a lower-back injury in 2019 and a shoulder injury in 2023 that sidelined him for multiple games.
His collegiate career saw him navigate the NCAA transfer portal twice. He moved to Louisiana Tech in 2023 before transferring again to Wake Forest in late 2023. At Wake Forest, he played in all 12 games, starting 11, and threw for 2,593 yards. Despite these efforts, he went unselected in the 2025 NFL draft and faced a string of short-lived opportunities with the San Francisco 49ers, the BC Lions of the CFL, and the Orlando Storm of the UFL.
A total reversal happened in 2026 involving the American Football League Europe's Alpine Rams. Joining a struggling 1–8 franchise, Bachmeier made an immediate impact. In his debut against the Firenze Red Lions, he threw for 546 yards and five touchdowns, shattering the league record of 438 yards. Across three matches, his 444.3 passing yards per game placed him eighth in the league, notwithstanding his few outings. This late-career surge highlights a rare trajectory of a player finding his peak in an unconventional arena.
