How the mysterious Picts survived as Rome's ancient enemies
In short: Step into the Iron Age to explore the survival strategies of Scotland’s most enigmatic tribe. This video follows Tristan Hughes as he attempts to recreate the ancient technologies and craftsmanship used by the Picts.
The documentary investigates the fundamental skills that allowed the Picts—notorious adversaries of the Roman Empire—to endure. Through hands-on experimentation, the film explores the complexities of Iron Age blacksmithing and the intricate process of traditional boat building.
A central test of these ancient methods is whether a self-constructed ox-hide boat can remain buoyant, providing a direct window into the ingenuity required for prehistoric survival in Scotland.
