In short: Founded over a century ago by Henri Mamet, JL Bourg Basket has transformed from a local regional champion into a formidable force in European basketball. From its professional debut in 1996 to recent EuroCup triumphs, the club's journey reflects a steady climb through the ranks of French and continental competition.

The origins of Jeunesse Laïque de Bourg-en-Bresse, known simply as JL Bourg, date back to 1910. Established by Henri Mamet, who served as the club's inaugural president, the team spent decades building its foundation. A significant milestone occurred in 1956 when the club secured its first major title by winning the Ain regional championship. This local heritage provided the groundwork for their eventual ascent.

In 1996, the club moved into professional play by joining France's second tier, the LNB Pro B. After decades of competition, 2014 proved to be a pivotal year. The team won the Pro B Playoffs to earn promotion to Pro A, while simultaneously moving into its new home arena, Ekinox. This modern venue holds 3,548 spectators, a significant upgrade from the previous Salle des Sports, which could only accommodate 2,300 people.

In recent years, JL Bourg has become a notable name in European competition. Following a season interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019–20, the club made its EuroCup debut in 2020–21. Their most successful European campaign arrived during the 2023–24 season. Despite a loss to Paris Basketball in the EuroCup Finals, the club achieved a historic milestone by winning its first European championship after defeating Beşiktaş 2–0 in the finals. However, despite this success, the club declined promotion to the EuroLeague due to financial constraints. This achievement followed a hard-fought 2–1 semifinal victory over Beşiktaş. Such continental success has firmly established the team on the international stage.
