The point guard who mastered the art of the double-double
In short: Jordin Canada didn't just enter the professional basketball scene; she dominated it with a rare blend of playmaking and defensive grit. From her record-breaking collegiate career at UCLA to securing back-to-back championships, Canada has redefined what it means to be an elite floor general.
Canada's ascent began in Los Angeles, where she was mentored by former WNBA player Vanessa Nygaard. Her high school career was a statistical marvel: she earned first-team All League and MVP honors for four consecutive years, culminating in the 2014 McDonald's All-American Game. At UCLA, she quickly became a cornerstone of the Bruins' offense. By her freshman year, she had already secured tournament MVP honors after scoring a career-high 31 points—half of her team's total—in a WNIT final victory.
Her collegiate legacy is defined by volume and versatility. Canada finished her UCLA career as the school's all-time leader in assists (831) and ranked second in both points (2,153) and free throws made (518). She was known for her ability to impact multiple facets of the game simultaneously, recording a triple-double against San Jose State in her senior year. This versatility translated directly to the WNBA, where she became a vital piece of the Seattle Storm's championship infrastructure.
Canada’s professional journey is marked by high-stakes adaptability. After being drafted 5th overall in 2018, she served as a reliable backup to Sue Bird before stepping into the starting role in 2019. During that season, she led the league in steals and finished second in assists. Despite injuries to teammates, Canada helped lead the Storm to championships in both 2018 and 2020. Her international resume is equally prestigious, having represented USA Basketball since 2011 and winning gold medals at various levels including the FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
