In short: From joining the Feyenoord Academy at age nine to earning a World Cup bronze medal, Jordy Clasie's path is remarkable. The Haarlem-born midfielder rose through the Dutch ranks, eventually playing in the Premier League for Southampton and representing the Netherlands during their impressive third-place finish at the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

Born in Haarlem on 27 June 1991, Jordy Clasie's journey through professional football began with a significant milestone in 2000, when he joined the Feyenoord Academy at age nine. After progressing through the youth ranks, he experienced an early professional breakthrough during a loan spell at Excelsior. In August 2010, he notably started in a 3–2 Rotterdam derby victory against his parent club, Feyenoord. By November 2010, only a few months after his professional debut, he had already earned a call-up to the Netherlands U21 squad.

Clasie's ascent continued when coach Ronald Koeman integrated him into the Feyenoord first team for the 2011–12 season. His tenacity on the pitch quickly earned him the respect of supporters. This period of development saw him extend his contract in 2014 following Feyenoord's successful qualification for the UEFA Europa League group stage. His playing style, characterized by a combative nature and creativity, eventually earned him the moniker the 'Dutch Xavi'. His first appearance for the Feyenoord senior side occurred during a friendly match against Málaga on 31 July 2011. He later committed his future to the club by signing a new deal through 2018.

His career later took him to the English Premier League, signing with Southampton in July 2015 for approximately £8 million. Under managers Ronald Koeman and later Claude Puel, Clasie contributed to the club's 2017 League Cup final appearance. Clasie joined the 23-player group led by Louis van Gaal during Brazil's 2014 FIFA World Cup. During that tournament, he appeared in the semi-final against Argentina and started the third-place match, a 3–0 victory over the hosts, Brazil. In the Premier League, he found the net for the first time against West Bromwich Albion in April 2017. Following his time in England, he moved to Club Brugge on loan in 2017 before eventually joining AZ Alkmaar in 2019.
