How Jujubee Became the Most Persistent Competitor in the History of Drag Race
In short: Airline Inthyrath, known as Jujubee, holds the singular distinction of reaching the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race four separate times. From her debut in 2010 to international appearances, she has evolved from a reality television contestant into a multifaceted performer, podcaster, and voice actor, redefining the longevity of a drag career.
Born in Boston to a Laotian Buddhist family, Airline Inthyrath navigated a challenging upbringing in Fresno and Lowell before finding her footing in the drag scene. Mentored by Boston performer Karisma Geneva-Jackson Tae, Inthyrath eventually graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in theatre arts. Her professional trajectory began in earnest in 2010 when she appeared on the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race at age 25, finishing in third place.
Jujubee's career is defined by an unprecedented level of participation in the franchise. She became the first contestant to reach the finale in three separate seasons during All Stars 5, and later set a record as the first queen to compete on four distinct seasons of the franchise with her appearance on RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World in 2022. Despite her competitive history, she has successfully pivoted into diverse media roles, including hosting the blind-date podcast Queen of Hearts and appearing in the actual play series Dungeons and Drag Queens.
Beyond her reality television tenure, Jujubee has cultivated a career as a recording artist and voice performer. She released two EPs, Good Juju: Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, in 2020, and has contributed to various studio projects, including Alaska's Drag: The Musical. While she has suggested that her 2022 competition appearance might be her last, her ongoing work in podcasts and scripted shows demonstrates a strategic transition from reality contestant to a versatile entertainer within the broader entertainment industry.
