In short: Born in Sōka, Japan, Kenta Kobayashi has spent decades redefining his identity in the ring. From his early days in All Japan Pro Wrestling to becoming a multi-time GHC champion and a WWE star, his career is a masterclass in stylistic evolution and resilience.

Kenta Kobayashi, known mononymously as Kenta, began his professional journey on May 24, 2000, debuting in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) against Naomichi Marufuji. Trained by Kenta Kobashi and Yoshihiro Takayama, his early career was shaped by a background in baseball and kickboxing, which informed his signature 'shoot style' wrestling. Following a dispute that led Mitsuharu Misawa to form Pro Wrestling Noah, Kobayashi became a cornerstone of the new promotion.

His ascent was marked by significant championship success across multiple weight classes. He became a decorated champion in Noah, holding the GHC Junior Heavyweight title, the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team title, the GHC Tag Team title, and the GHC Heavyweight title. Further proof of his supremacy came when he secured victories in both the 2012 Global League and 2013 Global Tag League tournaments. Furthermore, he extended his global presence by appearing in the US-based Ring of Honor (ROH) via a talent exchange deal.

Kobayashi's career is also defined by his tenure in WWE, where he competed as Hideo Itami in the NXT developmental territory and the 205 Live brand. After departing WWE in 2019, he joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he achieved further success, including winning the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team, NEVER Openweight, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Championships. After a period with NJPW, he departed in January 2025, returning to Pro Wrestling Noah the following month.
