From high school prodigy to the international heavyweight of professional wrestling
In short: In 2013, a high school student became the youngest champion in DDT history. Today, Konosuke Takeshita is a global force, commanding rings from Japan to America. Discover how this decorated athlete transformed from a decorated rookie into the 'Alpha' of the wrestling world.
Konosuki Takeshita's ascent in professional wrestling is marked by record-breaking milestones. Born in Osaka on May 29, 1995, Takeshita began his professional training with DDT Pro-Wrestling in 2011. His impact was immediate; in 2013, he was named Tokyo Sports' Rookie of the Year, becoming the first wrestler to win the award while still in high school. He has a massive record of titles, notably five KO-D Openweight Championship wins, starting with his victory on his 21st birthday which made him the youngest person ever to hold it.
His career is defined by a transition from a beloved underdog to a formidable heel. For years, Takeshita was a cornerstone of DDT, winning numerous tag team and six-man titles alongside partners like Tetsuya Endo. However, his trajectory shifted significantly when he signed with the American promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2022. In AEW, he underwent a dramatic character shift, aligning with Don Callis to form the 'Don Callis Family' and adopting the moniker 'The Alpha.'
The scale of his success spans multiple promotions and continents. Beyond his dominance in Japan, where he has also competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling since January 2025, Takeshita has secured the AEW International Championship twice. His versatility is evidenced by his ability to navigate various wrestling styles, from the high-stakes tournaments of the D-Oh Grand Prix to the intense, character-driven feuds against legends like Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.
