Can a supernatural vision of destiny change the course of true love?
In short: In the 2025 Tamil fantasy romantic comedy Kiss, a musician discovers he can see a couple's fate through a single kiss. This premise explores a heavy question: if you could foresee a tragic end to your own romance, would you attempt to rewrite destiny itself?
Directed by Sathish Krishnan in his directorial debut, Kiss follows Nelson, a young musician who is skeptical of romance due to his parents' divorce. His life changes when he acquires a mysterious book that grants him a supernatural ability: witnessing a couple's destiny whenever they kiss. This unique premise allows the film to blend fantasy with the emotional complexities of romantic drama. The protagonist's journey is complicated by his search for Sarah, the woman who provided him with the enchanted book. This quest forces him to confront the very visions he has been experiencing.
The production of the film was marked by several shifts and delays. Originally announced in May 2023 under the working title Kavin 6, the project faced multiple scheduling changes. Originally intended for a 28 March 2025 launch, the film was pushed back to prevent competing with Veera Dheera Sooran, before facing further delays for unknown causes. The title 'Kiss' was eventually confirmed in February 2025, following permission from director Mysskin, who had held the rights to the title for many years. The technical team features cinematography by Harish Kannan and editing by RC Pranav. Additionally, Peter Hein served as the stunt choreographer for the production.
Despite receiving positive critical reviews—with critics noting its breezy charm and heartfelt moments—the film struggled commercially. While reviewers like Sanjay Ponnappa of India Today praised its fresh mix of fantasy and emotion, the film was a box-office flop. It opened to only ₹80 lakh (US$83,000) worldwide, a figure significantly lower than Kavin's previous releases. The film eventually moved to streaming on ZEE5 on November 7, 2025. The musical score was composed by Jen Martin, who replaced the originally intended composer, Anirudh Ravichander. The film's soundtrack included singles such as 'Thirudi' and 'Jillelama'.
