The second-generation wrestler redefining his family's legacy in the WWE
In short: Born into wrestling royalty, Brian Zachary Pillman faced a complex family history to forge his own path. From training in Canada to becoming a standout in WWE's NXT, his journey is a study in transformation, moving from a tribute to his father to a fierce, independent competitor.
Brian Zachary Pillman, known to WWE fans as Lexis King, is a second-generation professional wrestler. He is the son of the late Brian William Pillman and model Melanie Diane Pillman. His entry into the ring was a deliberate choice, announced in February 2017 after training at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, under Lance Storm.
Pillman's career has been marked by significant transitions and identity shifts. Before debuting in the WWE as Lexis King, he first wrestled as Alex King to honour his sisters, Alexis Reed and Skylar King. In NXT, he established himself through a complex character arc, transitioning from a heel who denounced his father's legacy to a respected competitor who eventually formed the second-generation faction, BirthRight.
His championship pedigree includes being a former NXT Heritage Cup Champion and the final WWE Speed Champion. His rise through the ranks saw him competing in major promotions such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Major League Wrestling (MLW). Throughout his career, Pillman has navigated personal complexities, including the loss of his father, his sister Alexis Reed, and his mother Melanie, who died in 2022.
Today, King is a central figure in the NXT brand, leading the BirthRight stable alongside other second-generation stars like Channing 'Stacks' Lorenzo and Arianna Grace. His career reflects a continuous effort to balance his family's storied wrestling history with his own distinct professional identity.
