In short: For generations, the Demon Slayer Corps operated in total secrecy, hidden even from the Japanese government. While the world went about its business, an elite group of warriors, led by the powerful Hashira, engaged in a brutal struggle to protect humanity from the predations of demons.

The Demon Slayer Corps is an ancient organization dedicated to protecting humanity from demons. Its leadership has long been held by the Ubuyashimiki family, a lineage inextricably linked to the demon progenitor, Muzan Kibutsuji. This connection carries a heavy price: a curse that causes a terminal disease, killing family members before they reach their thirties. The 97th leader, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, famously used this connection to his advantage, sacrificing himself in a suicide bombing to weaken Muzan. This biological burden stems from their shared bloodline with Muzan. Kagaya's wife, Amane, even served as a caretaker for him during his decline.

The Corps' frontline warriors, known as the Hashira, represent the pinnacle of swordsmanship. Each utilizes unique breathing styles, such as Tanjiro Kamado’s Water Breathing and later his family's Hinokami Kagura, or Zenitsu Agatsuma’s mastery of the first form of Thunder Breathing. These techniques are often paired with specialized weaponry, like the Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima’s massive kusarigama or Mitsuri Kanroji’s whip-like Nichirin sword. Other notable combatants include the feral Inosuke Hashibira, who uses Beast Breathing, and the hyper-sensitive Zenitsu Agatsuma. Even the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, once lived as a monk.

The conflict reached its climax during a final, devastating battle against Muzan and his forces. The cost was immense: Kagaya, his wife Amane, and daughters Hinaki and Nichika all perished in the explosion of the Ubuyashiki estate. Many elite warriors, including the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, died in combat. However, the victory was absolute. Following Muzan's death, Kiriya Ubuyashiki, the Corps' successor, officially disbanded the organization, as their mission to eradicate demons had been fulfilled. The aftermath saw Kiriya Ubuyashiki lead the Corps through its final struggle. In the modern era, some fallen warriors have even been seen reincarnated as infants or restaurateurs.
