From independent rings to AEW, the rise of professional wrestler Megan Bayne
In short: Starting her career in 2017, Megan Bayne has become a prominent force in professional wrestling. From dominating the Ohio Valley Wrestling scene to competing in Japan for Stardom, her journey highlights the grit required to ascend from the independent circuit to a major global promotion.
Born on June 1, 1998, Megan Doheny—known professionally as Megan Bayne—began her wrestling career in November 2017 at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). She quickly established herself as a top performer, capturing the OVW Women's Championship in 2019 after defeating Max the Imperator on October 29. Her early success paved the way for international opportunities, including a significant tenure with the Japanese promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom.
Bayne's career has been marked by both high-stakes triumphs and physical setbacks. In July 2021, she won the ECWA Women's Super 8 Tournament by defeating Ashley D'Amboise. However, her momentum was interrupted in early 2022 when an ACL tear forced her to miss the remainder of that year. Following her recovery, she expanded her reach, making her AEW television debut in May 2021 and eventually signing officially with the promotion on February 1, 2025.
In AEW, Bayne has become a central figure in the women's division. After forming an alliance with Penelope Ford, she transitioned into a championship run. Teaming with Lena Kross as Divine Dominion, Bayne secured her first AEW championship by defeating the Babes of Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale on March 15, 2026. This victory marked the beginning of a title reign that lasted 168 days before they lost the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship to The Brawling Birds on August 30, 2026.
Bayne continues to balance her American commitments with international appearances, returning to Stardom in 2025 to compete in the Goddesses of Stardom Tag League alongside Hanko.
