Capturing the nomadic spirit of the Mongolian steppes
This archival footage from 2000 offers a rare glimpse into Mongolian life. Through extensive interviews and scenes of the steppes, the video documents the diverse lifestyles and contemporary realities of people living in Mongolia.
Filmed by Dr. Paula L.W. Sabloff, cameraman Tom Gillern, and crew member Heather Marshall, these unedited tapes were captured to support the 2001 Penn Museum exhibition, 'Modern Mongolia, Reclaiming Genghis Khan.'
The footage provides a window into the transition of Mongolian society, featuring interviews with individuals from various backgrounds. The recordings include scenes of life on the steppes and specific moments such as Puji at a construction site and walking with a cell phone.
