In short: From performing in Virginia as a teenager to amassing millions of views on YouTube, Nick Mullen has become a defining voice in digital-age humor. Known for his ironic and self-deprecating style, he has transitioned from niche internet podcasts to a nationally touring stand-up comedian.

Born in 1988, Nicholas James Mullen began his comedy career in the Washington–Baltimore area, performing at venues like the Wiseacres Comedy Club in McLean, Virginia. After honing his craft in Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, he moved to New York City in the mid-2010s, eventually settling in Brooklyn. His early career was marked by diverse projects, including writing under the heteronym Nicole Mullen for Thought Catalog between 2013 and 2015. He was originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland. During his early twenties, he spent time based out of Austin and Los Angeles. He also previously resided in Manhattan's Chinatown.

Between 2016 and 2022, Mullen achieved fame via the comedy podcast Cum Town, alongside co-hosts Adam Friedland and Stavros Halkias. The show developed a massive cult following before Halkias's departure. He later transitioned to The Adam Friedland Show, serving as a primary producer for its first season of twenty episodes, which concluded in December 2024. He departed that project in January 2025, citing burnout and new interests. He also produced a prank call podcast titled Help Me, I'm Old.

His comedic persona often navigates the complexities of internet culture through an observational and ironic lens. Despite his reputation for subversive humor, Mullen has been vocal about his political leanings, identifying himself as a social democrat rather than a communist. He has explicitly advocated for universal healthcare, stating that access to it should be free and easy for everyone. In 2023, he reached a major milestone when his debut special, 'The Year of the Dragon,' garnered one million views within its first week of release on YouTube. He has also contributed writing to Netflix's 2026 roast of Kevin Hart. Additionally, he appeared in a video with Zohran Mamdani to support a mayoral campaign.
