A nation shattered by nuclear war and reduced to a tenth of its size
In short: Imagine a modern civilization collapsing into a feudal nightmare. After a nuclear apocalypse and a deadly virus, Japan was forced into a regression where technology reverted to the Meiji era. Now, three warring kingdoms fight over the ruins of a fallen superpower.
The world of Nippon Sangoku is defined by a catastrophic collapse at the end of the Reiwa era. Following a global nuclear war, Japan suffered a trifecta of disasters: a massive influx of refugees, a deadly virus, and a devastating earthquake. These events, coupled with government mismanagement and heavy taxation, triggered a famine that sparked a popular revolt against the national government.
The resulting revolution succeeded in overthrowing the central authority but left the nation in ruins. The population plummeted to just one-tenth of its pre-war size. Most significantly, the country's technological advancement was wiped out, regressing to the level of the Meiji era. This vacuum of power led to the division of the land into three distinct kingdoms: Yamato, Buo, and Seii.
The narrative fast-forwards one hundred years to a landscape of fractured loyalties and military might. The story follows Aoteru Misumi, a cautious and by-the-book citizen of Yamato who seeks to reunify the divided land. He navigates a complex political web involving figures like Denki, the megalomaniac Prime Minister of Home Affairs in Yamato, and Ohga, the Supreme Commander of Seii who seized power via a coup to avenge her father, Byakko.
The conflict is characterized by contrasting leadership styles and deep-seated grievances. While Yamato deals with internal power struggles between its figurehead ruler and ambitious clans like the prestigious Asama, Seii is driven by a desire for vengeance. The Borderland Army serves as a pivotal military force, led by the dependable General Mitsuhide Ryumon, highlighting the desperate, militarized reality of a world trying to rebuild from the ashes of the old world.
