As part of the Egypt Exploration Society's Survey of Memphis, researchers are investigating the early development of the city during the Early Dynastic and Old Kingdom periods. Current evidence from sediment coring, geophysics, and pilot excavations suggests a location in the Nile Valley, situated east of the Saqqara mastaba field.
The presentation probes whether the shifting locations of pyramids over time serve as a reflection of the actual settlement of Memphis. Rather than viewing pyramids merely as individual funerary complexes, the talk considers them as potential indicators of the real capital's footprint.
