Does your DNA test actually reveal your race?
While at-home genetic testing has surged in popularity, it has also fueled misconceptions about human biology. This session explores the complex relationship between genetic data and the social construct of race.
The video examines the fundamental reality that race lacks a genetic basis. No single gene or characteristic exists that can distinguish all members of one society from another. Despite this, modern genetic discussions often center on the origins of human diversity, sometimes leading to the false belief that DNA can objectively prove the biological validity of race.
Led by Quayshawn Spencer, Ph.D. and Sarah Tishkoff, Ph.D., the discussion investigates how genetic data is utilized in conversations regarding human populations and the nature of our shared genetic diversity.
