In short: Before she was an elite wrestler, Tanea Brooks was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and a licensed cosmetologist. Her journey from the sidelines of professional sports to the ring of All Elite Wrestling is now defined by a profound personal struggle with one of the most challenging neurological diseases.

Tanea Brooks, known professionally as Rebel, built a diverse career long before entering the wrestling ring. Following her time dancing at the University of Tulsa, she joined the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in 1998 at age 19, having originated from Owasso, Oklahoma. Her versatility led her to work as a licensed cosmetologist, appear in country music videos with Trace Adkins and Brooks & Dunn, and even perform in burlesque dance troupes. These varied experiences provided the foundation for her transition into professional wrestling, where she eventually became a recognized name in promotions like Impact Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

In the ring, Rebel established herself as a formidable competitor. She competed in Ohio Valley Wrestling, where she won the OVW Women's Championship on November 2, 2016, and was ranked No. 49 of the best 50 female singles wrestlers by PWI in 2017. Her career took her internationally as well; in 2017, she toured Japan with World Wonder Ring Stardom, facing elite competitors like Io Shirai and Toni Storm. Despite a career marked by physical tolls—including a fractured arm during an Impact Wrestling match and a dislocated kneecap in 2021—she remained a consistent presence in the industry.

The narrative of Rebel's life shifted significantly in recent years as she faced severe health challenges. In November 2025, Brooks announced a diagnosis of primary pulmonary lymphoma. While undergoing treatment, she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in May 2026, having experienced symptoms for two years prior. To support her fight against ALS and increase public consciousness, AEW aired a Dynamite special titled Rebel Heart on September 9, 2026. Appearing in a motorized wheelchair, she continued her involvement with the promotion, highlighting a transition from physical performance to an enduring symbol of resilience.
