The evolution of a nickname from an elephant to a star
In short: Putthipong Assaratanakul's stage name was never his father's choice. It wasn't even his own. Instead, it was a gift from a four-year-old brother who transformed a rejected family joke into the identity of a Thai cultural icon.
Born in Bangkok on October 8, 1999, Putthipong Assaratanakul—known professionally as Billkin—has navigated a path from academic rigor to mainstream stardom. His journey is marked by a distinct transition from traditional education to the creative arts. He completed his secondary schooling at Saint Gabriel's College before pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing at Thammasat University, where he graduated on November 27, 2023. Currently, he continues his academic pursuit at University College London, focusing on a master's in Entrepreneurship.
His entry into the entertainment industry began under Nadao Bangkok. He first gained significant public attention in 2019 for his role as Doctor Tao in My Ambulance. This project served as a catalyst for his career, leading to a major production shift toward boys' love television series. Despite government-imposed COVID-19 restrictions delaying their debut from July 2020 to October 2020, the series I Told Sunset About You propelled him into the spotlight alongside co-star Krit Amnuaydechkorn.
Beyond acting, Putthipong has established himself as a multi-hyphenate artist. He contributed to several soundtracks and released his first single, "Hug in Mind," featuring JAYLERR. His subsequent single, "IXO," released on September 9, 2021, showcased his creative agency; he was involved from the conceptualization stage through to writing the chorus. This blend of soul and city pop reflects a deliberate artistic direction for an artist who balances business studies with cultural influence.
