In short: Spotted by a renowned director while still in high school, Rashin Rahman became an overnight sensation. His journey from a teenage idol in Malayalam cinema to a powerhouse across Tamil and Telugu industries showcases a rare trajectory of sustained stardom and versatile craft.

Rahman's career began with a stroke of serendipity in 1983. While attending high school in Ooty, he was discovered by the noted Malayalam director Padmarajan. Padmarajan offered him the lead role in the film Koodevide, which became a major hit and instantly transformed the teenager into a popular idol. His debut was so impactful that at just 16 years old, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor, alongside the Film Critics Award and the Chamber Award.

The 1980s were defined by his dominance in Malayalam cinema, where he collaborated with major directors like Bharathan and I.V. Sasi. During 1984, his presence in several significant productions, notably the highly praised Ithiri Poove Chuvannapoove, earned him the Kerala Film Chamber Award for Best Actor. During this era, he also became a cultural fixture through iconic dance numbers, such as the chartbuster 'Oru Madhurakinavin' from the film Kanamarayathu, which remains a staple of Malayalam cinema today.

Rahman's career is notable for its strategic expansion and longevity. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he pivoted to lead roles in Tamil and Telugu cinema, often using screen names like Raghuman or Raghu. He eventually returned to Malayalam cinema in 2004, maintaining a prolific output of around 200 films. His versatility is evidenced by his range, from playing a drug lord in Ranam (2018) to portraying the historical figure Madhurantakan in the 2022 epic Ponniyin Selvan: I.

His accolades reflect a career of significant cultural weight. In 2007, he was voted a 'Trendsetter' in the history of Malayalam cinema at the Etisalat Everest Film awards in Dubai, beating out major stars like Kamal Haasan. He has also received the Padmarajan Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2015, cementing his status as a foundational figure in South Indian film history.
