University heritage education and tourism integration are key to preserving cultural identity
In short: Researchers explored how universities can help preserve intangible cultural heritage by examining specific craft traditions and conducting a survey on creative cultural products. The study found that heritage education and cultural tourism integration are equally important factors in maintaining local cultural identity and ensuring the survival of traditional skills.
The research used case studies of traditional costumes and embroidery alongside a questionnaire survey to identify 26 indicators of cultural sustainability. It highlights that while government and community roles are vital, sustainable preservation ultimately relies on the self-management of cultural inheritors and the active participation of the public. A limitation of this study is that it relies on specific regional case studies and survey data to draw broader conclusions about cultural innovation.
Why it matters: Preserving traditional crafts requires a balance between formal education, tourism integration, and the active self-management of cultural inheritors.
