From competitive dance floors to a viral Disney breakout
In short: Ruby Rose Turner's trajectory from a child dancer to a multi-hyphenate actress illustrates the modern evolution of child stardom. By balancing competitive training with high-profile television roles, she transitioned from a background performer to a lead talent capable of carrying major franchise narratives and viral musical hits.
Born in Saugus, Santa Clarita, in 2005, Ruby Rose Turner began her professional journey at the age of seven. Her early career was defined by rigorous competitive dance, where she spent four years training and winning multiple national titles. Univision's Sábado Gigante, a Spanish-language variety programme, served as her primary 2012 launchpad. Her 2014 Dancing with the Stars debut showcased her moves; there, she sang 'It's a Hard Knock Life' for the movie Annie, while also playing an orphan in that production.
Turner's transition into acting began in earnest around 2016 with roles in Black-ish and Fuller House, the latter marking her first significant acting milestone. She also secured commercial work for major brands like Under Armour and Chloé during this period. Her breakthrough arrived in 2018 with the Disney Channel series Coop & Cami Ask the World, where she played Cami Wrather for two seasons. This era also saw her expanding into music, starring in Disney Music videos like "Ruby Rock" and "The Mirror," and signing with the agency CAA in early 2020.
In recent years, Turner has moved into more complex roles and voice acting, including a lead role in the Netflix series Eden in 2021. She played the Queen of Hearts' youth, Bridget, in the 2024 Disney+ movie Descendants: The Rise of Red. Her involvement in the franchise led to her song "Shuffle of Love" going viral, amassing over 33 million views in just 12 weeks. Looking ahead, she is set to appear in the 2026 film Bloomington and the 2025 dark comedy My New Friend Jim.
