From college championships to professional retirement: the journey of Thaddeus Moss
In short: Born on May 14, 1998, Thaddeus Moss entered a world of football excellence as the son of Hall of Famer Randy Moss. His career spanned collegiate glory at LSU and professional stints across the NFL, USFL, and CFL, marked by record-breaking performances and persistent injury battles.
Thaddeus Moss's football trajectory is defined by high-stakes achievements and significant setbacks. During his redshirt junior season at LSU, he set school records for tight ends with 47 receptions and 570 receiving yards. His impact was most visible during the 2020 National Championship Game, where he scored two touchdowns on five receptions. These scores were instrumental in helping quarterback Joe Burrow tie and eventually break the NCAA single-season record for touchdown passes.
However, the transition to professional football proved difficult due to physical hurdles. After the 2020 NFL draft, Moss joined the Washington Football Team as an undrafted free agent, yet an injury led to his placement on injured reserve and subsequent release in April 2021. He later joined the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was briefly reunited with former LSU teammates Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, though a hamstring injury suffered during pregame warmups prevented him from playing in a November 2021 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Moss's professional odyssey continued through various leagues. He played for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL and had a brief tenure with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League. After being cut during the Tiger-Cats' training camp in May 2024, Moss officially announced his retirement from professional football on May 13, 2024. His journey reflects the intense volatility of professional athletics, where elite collegiate success must contend with the realities of injury and roster shifts.
