From Utah record-breaker to the Bengals' first goal-scorer
In short: Zaccheus Malik Moss didn't just break records; he rewrote the history books at the University of Utah. After establishing himself as a premier collegiate powerhouse, his professional journey has taken him through three different NFL franchises, navigating injuries and high-stakes trades to remain a constant presence in pro football.
Moss first made waves at Hallandale High School, where he rushed for 1,098 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. After initially committing to the University of Miami, he chose the University of Utah. His collegiate career was defined by resilience; after a season-ending knee injury in 2018, he returned in 2019 to become the first three-time 1,000-yard rusher in school history. During that standout senior year, he became the all-time leading rusher for the Utes and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.
His professional career began with the Buffalo Bills in 2020 after being selected in the third round of the NFL draft. While his time in Buffalo saw him split carries and navigate a playoff injury, it set the stage for a significant trade on November 1, 2022. Moss was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for running back Nyheim Hines. In Indiana, he stepped into a primary role due to an injury to starter Jonathan Taylor, eventually finishing his first season there with a career-high 794 rushing yards.
In March 2024, Moss signed a two-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals as their starting running back. He scored the team's first touchdown of that season in Week 1 before being placed on injured reserve in November with a neck injury. Following his release by the Bengals in July 2025, Moss's journey serves as a study in professional longevity and the complex mechanics of NFL roster movement.
