In short: In the eighth installment of the Sharknado franchise, the Shepard family attempts to undo a global catastrophe by leaping through history. From the Cretaceous period to medieval Camelot, their quest to prevent sharknadoes leads to a reality-tearing temporal collapse that threatens the entire universe.

Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, The Last Sharknado: It's About Time follows Fin Shepard and his son Gil as they travel to the Cretaceous period to prevent the destruction of Earth. The film establishes a high-stakes rule for its time travel: due to energy instability, an individual can only travel back once before their existence is erased. This mechanism drives the narrative as the group leaps through various eras, including the American Revolutionary War and the Old West town of Santa Mira.

The temporal chaos escalates when the group's jumps lead them to the year 20013. In this distant future, a version of April known as Robot April has conquered a ruined world with an army of clones and MechaSharks. This version of April spent 20,000 years creating a Time Vortex powered by stabilized sharknado energy to force Fin into her future. This conflict eventually leads to a "timenado"—a phenomenon that transcends space-time and begins destroying the universe throughout history.

The film concludes with a sacrificial act to repair the timeline, resulting in a new, sharknado-free universe where the Shepard family is alive and well. While the film was released in the summer of 2018, it received generally unfavorable reviews, holding a 22/100 score on Metacritic and a 27% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the franchise's conclusion, a prequel titled Sharknado Origins was announced in November 2025, slated for a Summer 2026 release.
