In short: Before he became a household name in the boy band The Wanted, Tom Parker was a geography student who picked up the guitar at sixteen. His journey from local tribute acts to international chart-topping success and his courageous battle with a terminal diagnosis remains a poignant story of resilience.

Born in 1988 in Bolton, Thomas Anthony Parker initially pursued higher education at Manchester Metropolitan University. However, his passion for music led him to abandon his studies to chase a professional career. After gaining early experience in a Take That tribute group, his breakthrough arrived in 2009 when he was selected from thousands of hopefuls to join a new boy band, which would eventually be known as The Wanted.

The group achieved significant success, releasing three studio albums and securing two number-one singles on the UK charts. Their reach was global, with the band selling over 12 million records worldwide. Beyond his work with the group, Parker explored various creative avenues, including DJing, participating in reality television competitions like Celebrity MasterChef and The Jump, and performing in a UK tour of the musical Grease. His personal life was equally central to his story; he married Kelsey Hardwick in 2018, and they had two children together.

In 2020, Parker faced a profound personal challenge when he was diagnosed with a grade IV glioblastoma, an aggressive and inoperable brain tumor. Despite the severity of his condition, he remained active, organizing a charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2021 to support cancer research and reuniting with his bandmates for the first time since their 2014 hiatus. Although he initially reported that his tumor had stabilized following treatment, his health deteriorated rapidly. Parker passed away in March 2022 at the age of 33. His memoir, detailing his experiences, was released posthumously shortly after his funeral.
