The boy who restored the gods of ancient Egypt

Tutankhamun - The Boy Pharaoh Documentary · 58:43 · Video: The People Profiles · Watch at the source

In short: Discover how a child king navigated the religious wreckage of his father's revolution. This documentary explores Tutankhamun's brief reign, his restoration of traditional worship, and the 1922 discovery that captivated the world.

Tutankhamun ascended to the throne around 1332 BC as a child of approximately nine years old. He was born Tutankhaten and is widely believed to be the son of Akhenaten, whose radical religious shift had upended Egypt's traditional worship. To stabilize the nation, Tutankhamun—supported by vizier Ay and commander-in-chief Horemheb—restored the god Amun to supremacy and moved the court away from the capital at Amarna.

The young pharaoh reigned until his death at about 18 years of age. His tomb in the Valley of the Kings remained concealed for millennia until November 1922, when Howard Carter, funded by Lord Carnarvon, unearthed it along with its famous golden funerary mask and thousands of artifacts.
