In short: Victor Vescovo has reached the highest peak on every continent and the deepest point in every ocean. By combining his ascent of Mount Everest with his record-breaking dives into the Mariana Trench, he has covered a greater vertical distance than any other human being without ever leaving the planet.

Victor Vescovo, a former U.S. Navy intelligence officer and private equity investor, redefined the limits of human exploration through his Five Deeps Expedition. Between 2018 and 2019, he became the first person to visit the deepest points of all five of Earth's oceans. Utilizing the DSV Limiting Factor, a specialized submersible system, Vescovo systematically mapped and descended into trenches that had rarely, if ever, been reached by humans. His journey included the first human-occupied dives to the bottom of the Sirena Deep and the Molloy Deep, as well as reaching the deepest point in the Southern Ocean.

Beyond his oceanic achievements, Vescovo completed the Explorers Grand Slam, which involves climbing the Seven Summits and reaching both the North and South Poles. This combination of high-altitude mountaineering and deep-sea exploration earned him a Guinness World Record for the greatest vertical distance covered on Earth. His record is anchored by his 2010 ascent of Mount Everest and his 2019 descent into the Challenger Deep, totaling nearly 20,000 meters of vertical range. He has since returned to the Challenger Deep multiple times, facilitating scientific research and taking passengers to the seafloor.

Vescovo’s work extends into historical preservation and marine science. He has surveyed significant shipwrecks, including the RMS Titanic and the USS Johnston, the latter of which held the record for the deepest shipwreck ever surveyed at the time of its discovery. His expeditions have also contributed to biological understanding, with the identification of new species in the hadal zone. While his career has been marked by extreme technical success, it has also been touched by tragedy, notably the loss of his friend Hamish Harding during the 2023 Titan submersible implosion, an event that prompted Vescovo to emphasize the importance of industry-standard safety protocols in deep-sea exploration.
