In short: With over 12 million albums sold, 'Weird Al' Yankovic has achieved a level of commercial dominance rarely seen in comedy. From 1970s novelty singles to chart-topping hits, discover the remarkable trajectory of an artist who turned parody into a multi-decade phenomenon.

The career of Alfred M. Yankovic began with a single comedy song in 1976, but his path to stardom was paved through a series of strategic releases. His first single, "My Bologna," arrived in 1979, followed two years later by "Another One Rides the Bus," which reached number four on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100. On May 3, 1983, Scotti Brothers Records issued his first studio album, which later achieved RIAA gold status.

Yankovic's commercial peak in the 1980s was defined by massive hits like "Eat It," which topped the Australian charts and reached the top 15 in both Canada and the United States. While some albums, such as 1986's Polka Party!, saw a dip in performance, peaking at a disappointing number 177 on the Billboard 200, he proved his resilience. His career saw a resurgence with the 1992 album Off the Deep End, which reached platinum levels and featured the top 40 track "Smells Like Nirvana".

The latter part of his career saw unprecedented chart success. In 2006, Straight Outta Lynwood became his first top ten album on the Billboard 200, driven by the hit "White & Nerdy." This momentum culminated in 2014 with Mandatory Fun, his first number-one album on the chart, which moved 104,000 copies in its first week. Throughout his career, Yankovic has recorded more than 150 parody and original songs and earned five Grammy Awards from sixteen nominations.
