A 10x return on investment for a debut romantic comedy
In short: How does a modest production turn into a massive commercial success? The Tamil film With Love achieved an extraordinary financial feat, grossing nearly ten times its budget. Beyond the numbers, it explores the messy reality of seeking closure before starting something new.
With Love is a 2026 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy that serves as the directorial debut for Madhan and lead acting debut for Abishan Jeevinth. Zion Films and MRP Entertainment served as the production houses for this movie, which Soundarya Rajinikanth, Pasilian Nazerath, and Magesh Raj Pasilian oversaw. By October 2025, the team finished filming in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli during a brief period of only 35 working days.
The narrative centers on Sathya Seelan and Monisha, two individuals forced into an arranged marriage setup who find common ground through shared past traumas. Both characters grapple with unresolved feelings for former classmates—Sathya's one-sided love for Anisha and Monisha's complicated history with a classmate named Balaji. The film emphasizes the necessity of 'closure,' as the protagonists decide to reconnect with their past flames to resolve lingering emotions before committing to one another.
Financially, the film is a standout case of efficient filmmaking. With an initial cost near ₹4 crore (US$420,000), this project earned roughly ₹39 crore (US$4.0 million) over its entire run. This significant success was bolstered by high-profile marketing, including the first drone show of its kind in Tamil cinema at Edward Elliot's Beach. Despite mixed critical reviews regarding its narrative scaffolding, the film proved to be a commercial powerhouse, earning roughly ₹11 crore (US$1.1 million) within its first three days.
The project also represents a notable collaboration between established entities and new talent. The soundtrack was composed by Sean Roldan, who previously worked with Abishan Jeevinth on the 2025 film Tourist Family. Additionally, the production featured music by Deva from the 1997 film Nerrukku Ner. The film's distribution reached a wide audience, with Netflix acquiring digital rights and Vijay Television securing satellite rights.
