How a heat pump works
In short: A refrigerant picks up heat outside, a compressor makes it hotter, and it releases the heat indoors.
1. Outdoors, the refrigerant evaporates, taking in heat from the air. 2. A compressor squeezes the refrigerant gas, raising its temperature. 3. Indoors, the hot gas passes its heat to the room and condenses. 4. The liquid flows through an expansion valve, its pressure falls, and the cycle starts again.
