How The Met reimagined art history for students in 1972

Arts Awareness, 1972 | From the Vaults · 17:33 · Video: The Met · Watch at the source

In short: Step into a 1972 experiment where New York students moved beyond textbooks to engage with masterpieces through dance, music, and film.

This archival film captures a unique era of experimental arts education at The Met. Moving away from traditional art history lectures, educators led students through the galleries to interact with Greek and Roman statuary and create their own art within the museum spaces.

Released as part of The Met's 150th anniversary celebrations in 2020, this footage is drawn from a moving-image archive containing over 1,500 films dating back to the 1920s.
