Are your choices yours, or are they scripted by external forces?
In short: This video explores the ancient philosophical tug-of-war between free will and determinism. It examines whether humans possess the genuine agency to mold their lives or if our actions are merely the inevitable results of forces beyond our control.
The debate centers on a fundamental tension: can human beings be viewed as fundamentally free agents, or are we products of pre-existing conditions? The history of philosophy is defined by these competing arguments regarding whether we truly choose our paths.
Determinism suggests that our thoughts and actions are dictated by external factors such as biology, politics, class, or fate. Conversely, the concept of free will argues for our capacity to independently shape our existence. Understanding this conflict is essential to understanding how we perceive responsibility and autonomy.
