Exhibition Tour—Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co. | Met Exhibitions · 19:27 · Video: The Met · Watch at the source

In short: Explore the creative engine behind Tiffany & Co. in the late 19th century. This tour reveals how Edward C. Moore used his expansive personal collection of global artifacts to inspire the iconic silver designs that brought the company international acclaim.

Edward C. Moore, who lived from 1827 to 1891, served as the primary creative force at Tiffany & Co. during the latter half of the 19th century. As a silversmith himself, Moore curated a vast, eclectic personal collection of decorative arts, ranging from ancient Greek and Roman glass to Japanese baskets and intricate metalwork from the Islamic world.

The exhibition showcases over 180 pieces from Moore’s private collection, which was gifted to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, displayed alongside 70 silver works produced under his leadership. By examining these diverse influences, the exhibition highlights how Moore’s global perspective fueled the unparalleled originality of Tiffany & Co. designs. The exhibition is on view through October 20, 2024.
