Maps reveal our shared human identity rather than just physical terrain
In short: Social geographer Danny Dorling challenges the way we perceive geography. Instead of just showing where things are, his data-driven maps reveal who we are and how we are interconnected.
The video explores the power of social geography to visualize the world as a connected and ever-changing place. By using data to create maps, Dorling moves beyond traditional landmarks to show the underlying patterns of human existence.
It matters because these maps offer a new perspective on our belonging within a global system, inviting viewers to see the Earth as a complex web of relationships rather than a collection of static borders.
