The spiritual descendants of a prewar nationalist movement
In short: Poland's National Movement is more than a modern far-right party; it claims a direct spiritual lineage from the prewar National Democracy. By blending ultra-nationalism with a specific economic vision, the group seeks a fundamental social change it calls the Overthrow of the republic of the Round Table.
Founded in 2012 and registered as a political party in 2014, the National Movement (RN) is led by Krzysztof Bosak. It identifies as a far-right, ultranationalist, and neo-fascist organization that emphasizes social conservatism and militarism. Its policy platform is notably protectionist and eurosceptic. The RN advocates for the restoration of turnover tax, a "Citizen Retirement Programme" providing flat-rate pensions, and constitutional debt limits to protect public finances. They also demand national ownership of Polish land and the replacement of the Treaty of Lisbon with a "Sovereignty Treaty."
The party's geopolitical stance has shifted significantly over time. Initially, the RN pursued a "multi-vector policy," seeking closer ties with Russia and China as an antidote to U.S. and German influence. However, following critical remarks from Russia regarding Polish conduct in World War II and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the party's stance turned sharply negative. They now describe Russia as an "existential threat" and have called for banning the country from SWIFT and halting visas for its nationals. The RN maintains strong international ties with other nationalist groups, including Hungary's Jobbik and Italy's Forza Nuova. Domestically, they are known for a hardline stance against LGBTQ+ rights, describing homosexuality as a "disease." While they initially cooperated with the Kukiz'15 movement in 2015, they eventually split to maintain their specific ideological purity. The party currently holds seven seats in the Sejm as part of the Confederation Liberty and Independence.
