How MIT students design medical solutions for global health challenges
In short: This MIT OpenCourseWare project explores how multidisciplinary design can tackle real-world medical issues, specifically focusing on creating a bandage capable of detecting infections through fieldwork and prototyping.
Through the D-Lab Health program, students engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to global health technology design. Initial fieldwork involves students potentially visiting Nicaragua over spring break to partner with medical experts. Using medical technology design kits, they gain the field experience necessary to address specific device challenges. The project culminates in a product design solution, which is then prototyped during the summer for continued evaluation and testing.
