A new framework for designing gamified learning experiences in education
In short: Researchers who synthesized literature on gamification and student engagement have developed a new framework to help educators design more effective learning experiences. While applying game elements to education is a popular way to boost motivation, the evidence regarding how these mechanics lead to deeper learning remains unclear.
The authors created this framework to bridge the gap between theory and practice, allowing for the purposeful selection of game attributes to achieve specific student outcomes. As a conceptual article, this work synthesizes existing research rather than presenting new empirical data from a student study.
Why it matters: This framework provides a roadmap for educators to intentionally use game elements to support deeper learning.
